In 1986, I was looking for a Weekend Waterfront Get-a-Way for me and my family. As a boat owner for years, I realized our 30ft Cruiser was just a "hole in the water I threw money into" — what we really needed was a permanent home on the water.

I knew I wanted a place within a 2-hour drive of the DC Beltway, near the Chesapeake Bay off the Potomac River. We discovered an old 1900s farmhouse on the Yeocomico River near a great little town called Callao. We came every weekend, and our kids (aged 3 to 12 at the time) absolutely fell in love with the waterfront lifestyle.
